The highlight of this film is an innovation. The gangsters here are not portrayed as mindless monsters but as men with families. We see Vito and Michael Corleone as protagonists rather than antagonists. Credit for this goes to Mario Puzo"s original source material but let us not forget the actors.
Marlon Brando gives the greatest performance of not only his career but of any other actor as the family patriarch. He"s so Don-like that you just wished you could go to him with all your problems too. Al Pacino plays Michael Corleone. But he doesn"t give a single performance, he gives two. At the beginning, he plays a war hero who doesn"t want anything to do with the family business. Pacino skillfully shows us Michael"s transition from this to a cold blooded Don at the end. The other actors play their parts well too. In fact, there has never been any other better cast than the cast of The Godfather.
A cinematic masterpiece, this is one for the ages.

The film follows two story lines. There"s Marlon Brando as "Don Corleone" and his dealings with the organized crime business. And then there is Al Pacino as "Michael Corleone" and his decent into the business, and how it corrupts and transforms him into a monster. You would think that by this description the movie must be tense, and interesting right? Well your wrong. The movie is boring, drawn out, and lacks any tension, or excitement. Not only that but i don"t know if i was so bored that i just missed half the dialogue, or if it was never there to begin with. I was perpetually confused by the stuff happening in this movie because I wasn"t getting any info as to what the characters were doing, or what was being set up.
If you really like mobster movies then by all means watch this film and talk about how awesome it is, but beyond that just look for a better movie, because there are a lot of them.

Some lists have Citizen Kane as the best American film ever made. Others. Have The Godfather it can”t be settled. This movie is truly a classic, not for the action mind you for there are a lot of movies around with this kind of action in it. But none have the mind biting dialogue in them. This movie is like eating a chocolate cake. One bite and your hooked, truly I must say this is a great film, the cast is brilliant. I loved Marlon Brando as the godfather but I think Al Pacino and James Caan did wonderful jobs as well I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves mafia films, it"s truly one of a kind I would also like to point out that James caan still has it that kind of Mafia mojo of course it was used really well in Micky Blue eyes which just happens to be the funniest Mafia film I have ever seen.
